Journey to the nearby state of Nayarit to see one of the most fabled and famous sites in all of Mexico.  Nestled on a historic man-made island is the birthplace of the legendary Aztec civilization,  Mexcaltitan.  The normal way to traverse the city streets of this famous town is by boat, as the streets are mostly underwater, earning it the moniker of "The Venice of Mexico".

We will take our boat through the rivers, swamps and estuaries surrounding Mexcaltitan, where the Aztecs thrived until abandoning the city in about 1089 A.D.  We will also visit the town of Santiago Ixcuintla, where we will see the colorful tiled murals that describe the history of Mexico through the Aztec years.
