Once famed for building canoes, the tiny village of Puerta de Canoas is now known more for ranching and its dancing horses ridden by charros. Its proximity to Mazatlan makes it a great tour stop to see how rural Sinaloa lives, north of Mazatlan. Our excursion begins with a stop at Playa Norte (North Beach), known for its giant frigate birds. You will get to hold a stick with a fish on the end and actually feed these famous sea birds. Our tour continues to Nuestra Senora de Fatima (Temple of Our Lady of Fatima), where we will see the biggest and most impressive crucifix in all of Mexico. The next stop on the tour is Mexico's biggest shrimp fleet, before heading to the tiny pueblo of Puerta de Canoas. We will see how the local people are making cheese and candy in local homes to sell in Mazatlan, and get a demonstration of the famous dancing horses. The charros will show you some amazing moves, famous at Mexican Fiestas. We will stop for lunch (optional) at a cozy local restaurant where you can order traditional dishes from the menu.
