All around you are the spectacular landscapes of the Sierra Madre Occidental, complete with its stunning volcanoes, cliffs and rivers. Founded in 1563 by Spanish conquistador Francisco de Ibarra, the historic capital of Durango features nearly 1000 historical buildings in the city center alone.
