Built in 2006, mighty Picachos Dam arrived in Sinaloa to great protest. The dam on the Presidio river flooded dozens of villages, and drove thousands of families from their homes. Desperately needed for irrigation and drinking water for the drought-ridden region, Picachos brought with it a whole new region for both tourism and local economy in rural Mazatlan.
THIS TOUR IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE On this sensational rural excursion, we will tour the ghost town of San Marcos, whose residents have long since relocated to other towns, but its colonial character remains. We will admire the Dam Curtain, an incredible water jet that faces the agricultural fields. We will board a local boat and watch local fishermen catching tilapia in traditional ways on the newly opened Picachos Reservoir.
The scenery of the Sierra Madre
is all around us, as we appreciate this once unreachable
rural area, where we will see local farmers are
raising cattle, pheasants, peacocks, chickens and
ducks and really experience life in the rural areas
well outside of Mazatlan. Runs: Tuesdays and Fridays and 10:00 AM. Duration: 6.5 Hours Approximately Departs: Pick-up at your Mazatlan Hotel Includes:
